Links in Languages

We are a school which is a ‘regional leader for Languages education’. The Links into Languages programme is a nationally co-ordinated network of support centres based in universities. Links into Languages South East is a partnership between Modern Languages at the University of Southampton and a network of Links Local Centres, including Lord Grey, which provide local access to the Links into Languages Professional Development programmes. Our mission is to bring together a wide expertise in Languages learning and teaching, to provide a resource base of materials, to co-ordinate a regular programme of MFL CPD and to be the focus for developments in Language education in the region.

Our vision is to build on and extend the existing learning community of language teachers, educators and all those working in the world of languages across primary, secondary and further education institutions. We offer high quality continuing professional development courses written and delivered by expert practitioners. Links into Languages is a consortium led by the Subject Centre for Languages (LLAS) at the University of Southampton with the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) and the Association for Language Learning (ALL). Within the consortium, LLAS is responsible for managing the Links programme as a whole, SSAT commissions and manages the development of the Links Core Courses, and ALL manages the Linked Up Award Scheme. Links is funded by the Department for Education (DfE).

Working in partnership with Routes into Languages, other providers, including CILT, the National Centre for Languages and all the major stakeholders, Links seeks to ensure that those working in the field of languages have clear information, advice and guidance about all the support services available.
