The Design Technology Faculty is divided into three subject areas (Departments): Resistant Materials, Graphic Products and Food Technology.
In Design Technology students are taught about the structure of design and how to be a designer. This knowledge is then applied to the materials, equipment and processes used in any of the three subject areas.
At Key Stage 3 students at Lord Grey School work in Design Technology on a rotational system giving them access to all three of the subjects on a yearly basis increasing their knowledge and experience of designing. At the end of the Key Stage when students choose which subjects they will take at Key Stage 4 into GCSE they will have the knowledge and experience necessary to inform and help them to make their decisions correctly.
At Key Stage 4 students specialise in one of the three subject areas and over the two years of the course add to their experience and knowledge in readiness for their GCSE at the end of year 11.
Students also have the opportunity of continuing with their design education at
A Level with the Product Design course which is run at Lord Grey School.
