LRC

Our Learning Resource Centre has been specifically designed to be a welcoming and user-friendly environment, in order to provide a positive learning experience for the students of the school. The LRC has a Chartered Librarian and an Assistant Librarian, with a team of very enthusiastic student monitors to help out at break and lunchtimes.

We encourage students to become independent learners and help to promote the development of lifelong skills. We can help students with homework in a variety of ways, from finding a book to searching for suitable websites; from helping to choose a great story to compiling extensive topic files on all the latest social issues. And the great thing is we are here before school starts, all day, and after school finishes – so there is always time for the students to use the LRC.

Throughout the year we run a number of book activities to inspire a love of reading:
encouraging the students to contribute book reviews for the LRC website; promoting book events such as Poetry Day, and World Book Day; holding a book fair every year, which parents are warmly invited to visit after school; organising a Readathon for the Year 7 students; and running a school bookclub.

The annual highlight of the year is Book Blast, when we invite well-known authors to visit the school and talk to our Year 8 students. Visiting authors have included Malcolm Rose, Anthony Horowitz, Celia Rees, Beverley Naidoo and Yvonne Coppard.
