Youth Counselling Service (YiS)
Youth Counselling Service is a long running independent charity with a BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) Accredited Service. This means that YiS have demonstrated a high quality of service delivery, meeting benchmark standards for counselling and psychotherapy provision maintained by ongoing assessment. In addition, BACP Accredited Services work within the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and follow their Professional Conduct Procedure.
YiS have a mix of experienced, qualified counsellors and counsellors in training. All counsellors receive ninety minutes of supervisory contact per month through a mix of individual and group supervision along with regular CPD (Continuing Professional Development) and line management.
YiS work with young people aged 11-21 who live, learn or work in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas covering a range of issues including anxiety, depression, anger, recovery from abuse, family problems, relationship difficulties and many more.
The charity is overseen by a board of volunteer trustees.
HOW CAN COUNSELLING HELP YOU?
If you want to talk to someone, trained counsellors will listen, offer support and help you work out your feelings so that YOU can decide what you want to do. No problem is too small or too large for you to share with them.
HOW YiS WORK
The young people who contact YiS come from a wide range of backgrounds and family situations. They are young people from your neighbourhood, your street and maybe from your family. They hear about YiS from friends, neighbours, youth workers, schools, health centres and social workers.
YiS offer young people counselling by appointment. They might refer to other specialist agencies as required. If a young person is unsure of the type of help required, they will spend time with them to help them to identify what is needed.
