Welcome to Your Future: Joining the Class of 2026

Welcome to Lord Grey Academy! We are absolutely delighted that you will be joining our vibrant school community this coming September 2026.

The transition from primary to secondary school is one of life’s great milestones. It’s a time of new friendships, new subjects, and new opportunities to discover exactly who you want to be.

At Lord Grey Academy, we pride ourselves on being a supportive “collaboration between home and school” where every student is encouraged to strive for high standards and live out our core values.

Our motto, ‘Lord Grey Can’ reminds all members of our community that there is no limit to our ambition where imagination can become reality. Our Aim is to provide a stimulating learning environment, a broad curriculum and the highest quality pastoral care so that all our students flourish.

Our values of Determination, Ambition, Curiosity, Integrity and Civility are caught, taught and sought out so that we develop the character of Lord Grey students to prepare them for life beyond school

What to Expect This Summer

We know you might be feeling a mix of excitement and a few “first-day jitters”—that’s completely normal! To make sure you feel like a part of the family before you even step through the doors, we have a full transition program planned:

  • Transition Days: Come and experience a “day in the life” of a Lord Grey student.

  • Meet Your Tutors: Get to know the teachers who will be your mentors throughout your journey.

  • Parent Information Evening: Ensuring the whole family feels prepared for the leap to Year 7.

Our Promise to You

At Lord Grey, we live by the motto: “Lord Grey Can.” Whether you are an aspiring scientist, a talented athlete, a creative artist, or a future leader, we are here to provide the platform for your success.

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. We can’t wait to take those first steps with you this September.”

We look forward to meeting you all very soon!

Frequently Asked Questions: Transitioning to Year 7

Moving to secondary school brings up a lot of practical questions. Here are the answers to the things our new families ask most often:

Question Answer
When is the first day? Term starts in early September 2026. You will receive a specific induction date in your welcome pack later this spring.
What is the school uniform? Our uniform consists of the Lord Grey blazer, tie, and option of branded PE kit or plain black. A full list of approved suppliers and “Frequently Asked” uniform tips is available in our [Uniform Guide].
Mobile Phone use? From September 2026 when the new term starts, we will be introducing Phone Pouches for all of our students which will ‘live’ with your student from Year 7 up until they finish their Journey with Lord Grey Academy.
How are ‘Sets’ decided? We use a combination of SATs results, primary school teacher recommendations, and our own internal assessments to ensure students are in the best environment for their pace of learning. On entry, for the first four weeks, we do some transition work on Literacy, Numeracy and take a deep look at work set from the October Half  Term.
What if my child gets lost? Don’t worry! The school is large, but for the first week, Year 7s have plenty of support and student buddies to help them find their way between classrooms. Their first day is the first day of school with Year 12s. The remaining years follow the following day.
